This is my first ever video post. I’m trying something new, so please be kind!
We’re in the swing of the legislative session in Texas right now, and I’m also busy preparing the next Book-Loving Texan’s Guide for the May 3rd school board elections. With all that and teaching and family and, you know, life, I haven’t had time to write out a full post in a while. But I did want to update you all about the infuriating arguments Texas book banners are making in support of Senate Bill 412, a bill that could make it to the floor of the Texas Senate any day now. Hence, the video above.
What can you do? If you’re in Texas, call your state senator and tell them SB412 doesn’t protect kids; it just intimidates educators. And, while you’ve got them on the phone, let them know that SB13, which would cripple school libraries, is also bad news. Both bills are due for a floor vote, so don’t wait.
And make sure you’re following Texas Freedom to Read Project on social media (Bluesky, Instagram). We’ll have calls to action there as bills like this move through the legislative process.
And, as always, thank you for your support!
