Almost forgot, these ladies thrive on any publicity- even negative. Actually they like negative press so they can be “victims”…in fact that is Lynn Strawns go to… when she ran for board she made public claims about harassment and said she was getting texts from the opposing candidates team and being stalked…. Was there a police investigation or police report filed? Of course not.. just written articles that ended up being retracted. She’s definitely a drama mama.
This article is so spot on.. and clearly triggering as the hand wringers have already commented! They absolutely want to abolish public Ed.. but on the bright side, I’ve seen their “tour” videos and of the camera accidentally strayed towards the audience- it is only a handful of old ladies.
I support our public schools and my children are IN public school. They are in orchestra, choir, FFA, fine arts and I serve on the PTO. We need public schools but we need local elected school board control and get rid of the DOE. We need to improve our academic program. Supporting our teachers and accountability for students behavior on campus. Not every parent wants 5 days a week schooling. I direct a classical program supporting students who left during COVID. I support parents rights to oversee and educate their child as they see fit. We need a free and efficient educational system as stated in the constitution. It is not efficient because the DOE has their hands in it. We can make public schools even better.
I love that you hear great songs in your head. I do too. I’ll be speaking at the AFT rally in Austin on March 13 on several of the topics you mentioned. It’s too bad you miss the whole point of our advocacy. Your inability to grasp it only emboldens those who prey upon our kids and teachers. Happy to discuss further. I find the “book banner” label to be a distraction. There’s no need for books in the metaverse “they” are building around us.
My Tarrant group of M4L nor Families Engaged encourages or has actively sought to ban Any books! In fact if you were to ask our members- I am happy to provide facts about books, yet upfront say- we don’t focus on the obscenity and age inappropriate books. Because the law is not in place to have a standard.
Psychologist and medical developmental specialist concur sexuality is not a topic easily processed before 5th grade. So YOUR flat wrong about the Books.
You are correct- we are opposed to ESA’s and vouchers- mostly because the lawmakers in Texas ( both parties) are addicted to spending $ and feel they can spend money without accountability as long as it is said to be for Education. They - the statist- have a constitutional obligation to make the government education perform better than the bottom quartile. Texas children deserve better. If the Governor wants vouchers- be truthful don’t dress it up and say it is parent Empowerment- truth at some point has to be demanded- and here is a place to do so- call this what it is- it does zero for 90% of the children getting a better education. Parents power doesn’t ever come from Government- and TX Already has school choice- try giving them a return on the investment in Ed- or YES GIVE us all our tax dollars back!
Families Engaged has not endorsed any candidate yet, and has not endorsed Serena.
Her comment is hers and does not represent the group. We allow free speech on and within our group, as our mission statement says “iron sharpens iron “ we promote differing opinions in hopes we expand thinking.
Yes the state is collecting data on every student- and we have evidence. The commissioner usurps elected bodies as oft as possible, and ironically every time it is with digital curriculum that has no academic success, and at best is experimental, and full of the inappropriate content to boot. Classical literature would be fabulous- British and American classics.
Culturally relevant content is just that relevant- and fades-
The Texas children are used as a commodity by the commissioner Mike Morath-
Frank- talk about us please- but be truthful and Know what you’re talking about!
Get those kids off the Ed tech- and get them good teachers! Research shows Ed TECH is damaging, unsafe, and a failure-
And of course $85. Per survey is clearly selling the data!
